You know what they say…everything is bigger in Texas, but Dallas…Dallas is not just bigger, it’s also better. I may be biased since I’ve called the area home for over the past decade. We even moved away briefly and returned because we realized just how family friendly it really is.
We often do Dallas like tourists to make sure we’re getting the most out of where we live. I’ve never understood how people don’t take advantage of the cool sites and sounds directly around them. What’s the point in exploring the world, if we can’t first explore home?
So whether you live in North Texas or plan on visiting…
Here are Six fun, family friendly things to do in and around Dallas with Kids:
The Perot Museum of Nature and Science. This museum is a fan favorite in my house. We literally can spend hours here and still not get to every experience. There are three floors of fun learning and interactive exhibits to choose from. If your kids love dinosaurs, this is an especially great option as the dinosaur exhibits are stately and thorough. There is also a super cool robotics area that will get the wheels turning in your little ones, and even the adults in your group.
iFLY. Do you have little kid adventurers?? I certainly do, and this indoor skydiving haven gave them the jolt of excitement they love to get on outings. Before taking flight, you and the kids will go through mini flight school. You’ll watch a video on communicating in the tunnel, body movements, and overall safety. iFLY offers a choice between their regular flights or a super high flight, which lasts longer and goes higher than the standard package. Definitely check this out when in the Dallas area.
Legacy West – Legacy Food Hall and Box Garden. Legacy west is a cool stop on any Dallas itinerary list because it’s perfect for both kids and parents. For the moms and dads that love shopping, you will not be disappointed in the wide array of store options. As for the kids, the Box Garden is perfect for eating outside, running around, and during certain times of the week, you can even catch a cool show on the stage. The food hall, which opens up to the Box Garden, offers a variety of restaurants of various cuisines to choose from. It’s done in a food court style, so the whole family can have a different meal if you want. This is the perfect spot after finishing up at iFly, or just wanting a fun experience while having lunch.
Reunion Tower. The Dallas skyline has always been iconic, and one of the most recognizable fixtures is the big ball, or more formally known as Reunion Tower. Every time we would drive into Dallas my kids would ask about going inside the big ball, so one day during Fall Break we made it happen. You can buy a ticket to go all the way up to the top where you’ll have beautiful 360 degree views of the city. Once at the top, enjoy the views, peep through the view finders, and walk around inside for some awesome picture opportunities. It’s just one of those things that you have to do when going to Dallas.
Deep Ellum. What’s a visit to any city if you just stay in the touristy areas? Get into the Dallas hipster scene by taking a visit down to Deep Ellum. There is art, culture, music, and just a vibe that’s worth catching. Be on the lookout for cool public art in the form of sculptures and mural art. And, make sure to grab a meal…there are so many options to choose from. Enjoy!
Klyde Warren Park. This park is uniquely situated on top of a freeway. It was all the rage when it was built, and it’s every bit of the hype. There is a splash pad fountain, playground, food trucks, seating areas, a restaurant, and tons of green space. To top it off, there is always something happening there, whether it’s Shakespeare in the park, poetry reading, or musical performances. Take a blanket, picnic basket, and sunglasses, and prepare for a great day.
This list only scratches the surface, but it’s a great way to see all the different sides of Dallas. Have a blast!
