We love catching flights, but every now and then we add in a road trip here and there. In June 2021, we decided to head down to the Austin area to see if the newest water park in Texas was all that we’d heard it to be. **Spoiler Alert** It was, in fact, everything we’d heard. It was great.
Get ready for water, water, and more water…oh, and some yummy eating and game playing. We spent four fun-filled days at Kalahari in June 2021. Before our visit, I found out that you can arrive early and enjoy the water park prior to official check-in time, which is 4pm. Every single extra minute of water fun is like candy to my kids, so they loved it! The same goes for the day of check out. You’re able to stay and play until 3pm the day of check-out.
Backing up a bit, When you initially arrive, you’ll notice the beautiful grounds. Kalahari Round Rock has a tastefully done African theme inside and out. You’ll notice it immediately once you get onto the property with the outdoor art installations.
Another Tip: Make sure you drive to the front of the building and unload there. The walk from the parking lot is a hike.
Once you make it to the front desk, just let them know you’re there to enjoy the park prior to check-in. They’ll give you arm bracelets to use throughout the property. If your kids are into arcade and theme park style fun, make sure to add the Tom Foolery package. If you’re not sure, just pay as you go in that area.
Rooms: The rooms are beautiful and spacious. It also helps that this property is brand new. We opted for a room with two queens and a pull out sofa. I worked perfectly for our then family of 5.
Did you Know, Kalahari Round Rock is the largest indoor water park in the country?? I didn’t, but you’ll surely be able to tell when you get on the grounds. There is both an outdoor and indoor section. I have to admit, the outdoor areas are my favorite.
Don’t forget about the indoor amusement park. It’s on huge display as your walk through to the indoor water park. This area, known as Tom Foolery, is packed with fun including:
- Escape room, which must be booked in advance but is so worth it!
- Bowling
- Ropes Course (bring socks and closed-toe shoes for this!). This was my kids’ favorite
- Rides
- Arcade (cost extra, not included in wristbands)
- Laser tag
What about the food??
You don’t have to leave the resort to find yummy food, Kalahari has so many options for staying on property and dining. A few to consider are:
- Cinco Niños for Mexican food and happy hour margaritas
- B-Lux Grill & Bar for epic milkshakes
- Sortino’s Italian Kitchen for Italian food and wine (make a reservation as they filled up fast every night.)
- Double Cut Steakhouse for meat & seafood
Overall, Kalahari is a great fun filled family destination. Make sure to bring clothes for both the water park and the amusement area (like closed toed shoes) and you’ll have a great time enjoying all there is to offer. Also, take your time and walk the property. The African art is gorgeous and authentic, and during our visit several pieces were for sale.
In the evening, head out to the big patio and enjoy the fire pits (if it’s not blazing hot).
Happy Travels!
